Following my last article on coronavirus outbreak, the virus, unfortunately, has continued to spread. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak a global health emergency. Although the cases of the virus are still 99% in China and the rest of the world’s confirmed cases are only 176, this does not mean that the condition of the virus spreading will not get worse. The WHO has also stated that there is a “window of opportunity” to prevent the virus from spreading. The Chinese government has made a lockdown intending to decrease the spread from the virus which according to WHO will halt the transmission.

How has the virus spread?

The live update from the New York Times, the figures of the infected derived from China’s Health Commission has now reached 24,324. According to WHO 23 countries beside China have confirmed cases of the novel virus. Many governments, including the UK and France, have advised their citizen to leave China especially if they are still near the Hubei province.

Health officials have released the statistical data of deaths caused by the virus. According to the data 2/3 of deaths from the virus are men. Over 80% of the infected deaths are over 60 years old and many of them have already a pre-existing conditions like diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Will my Travel Insurance Cover for Coronavirus?

If travelers end up in a medical emergency, as I have mentioned earlier, coronavirus is a disease that affects the respiratory system and if you are hospitalized with the virus you can claim for your hospitalization, pre-hospitalization, and post-hospitalizations and your healthcare provider will most likely cover for your medical costs.

Protect yourself while you are travelling, health insurance plan will save you from hospitalization costs. Inpatient medical costs are extremely expensive anywhere you are in the world which is why we recommend everyone to have health insurance to avoid any financial problems when healthcare services is needed
