Traveling to SEA – is it still possible?

Traveling to Southeast Asia at the present moment is not recommended as many local governments have implemented traveling restrictions to prevent further spread of the virus. Make sure to check on the latest information on COVID-19 on areas where it is spreading, before deciding to travel. Travel restrictions can vary and change rapidly following the national governments in each country. All travel bans, restrictions or requirements are under the influence of the national governments therefore you must have an inside sight on the countries you wish to visit.

Many countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia have banned entries to a foreigner for the temporary moments.

Be careful for all travel or transit to Thailand, the government had issued a new regulation as all travelers must show at check-in counter a proof of health insurance covering the COVID-19 up to US$ 100 000. As your broker, we are aware of this new regulation and will provide you the document requested by the company.

What is the latest update on COVID-19?

We rely on our main sources and reference from the World Health Organization situation reports. The numbers stated below are verified figures. The WHO is monitoring closely on the cases of COVID-19 and therefore it is worth to look in their sources, I will attach the link below where you can also access the Situation Reports published by the WHO.

In the region of Southeast Asia alone the confirmed cases following the situation report -73 held by The World Health Organization have reached 5,324 with 149 new cases. 216 deaths verified in the region with 21 new confirmed deaths reports.

If I decide to travel what do I expect from my insurance coverage?

Your expatriate health insurance is mostly covering you for all health expenses link to the Corona Virus. Nevertheless, be aware that the assistance coverage that includes evacuation and repatriation is for almost all expatriate health insurance and traveling insurance, under exclusion for epidemic.

In all major policy, expatriate health coverage and assistance coverage have their separate wordings. Some exclusions are applied to both coverages (health and assistance). Some exclusions are specific to one coverage only.

So insurance coverage on COVID-19 will depend on each policy given by the insurer, please check directly with your broker or insurance agent for further clarification on your coverage.

Note also that during this unusual situation, all insurers are supporting their insured by amending their claims process.

Our AExpat team have written a blog on the coverage of COVID-19 in the previous week, please check the link below to find out more on how our insurances cover for COVID-19.
